I have Plex Media Server running on my iMac which is connected to the local Wi-Fi network. My iPhone and iPad has the Plex app and is connected to the same local network. I am able to see my media libraries on my iPhone but on the iPad it doesn't show anything and is offline. I tried a few things like toggle Wi-Fi, changed access point, logout and login again on the iPad but these did not work. I restarted the Plex Media Server, rescanned the libraries, still the same issue. But I found the fix which was very simple. On the iPad go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Local Network > Plex, toggle it off and back to on. Relaunch the app and it connects to the Plex Media server without any issue displaying the media libraries.
If you are not familiar with Plex, it's a media platform that let's us stream our own digital collection of movies and TV shows from a central server which runs the Plex Media Server which can then be accessed from anywhere using the Plex client app. It's not just a file storage for the media content, it updates metadata for each movie and TV series with oragnization of content providing a beautiful browsing experience like a paid streaming platform. It keeps the viewed history so we can continue from where it's left off from any device. Plex is not just for movies and TV shows, it works with photos, music, audiobooks, but I did not explore these yet. And these features are free. The ideal setting would be a NAS making this your ultimate entertainment destination.
